New York, New York! It’s a wonderful town, as the song goes. From Harlem to the Bowery, you will never be disappointed when you visit New York City. Feast on cannoli in Little Italy and Dim Sum in Chinatown. See New York from the Top of the Rock or by boat on a harbor cruise. Traveling around the city can’t be easier. Travelers can take a bus or the subway to just about every destination. And New York vacations are not just for summer. No matter what time of the year, New York has something fabulous in store.
Christmas is an extraordinary time to visit New York. Yes you will probably experience snow but that gives an air of excitement and festiveness to the city. If you are in New York around the Christmas holidays, make sure you visit Rockefeller Center to see the Christmas tree display. Plan on taking in a Rockettes Christmas Show at Radio City Music Hall and experience a holiday tradition with dancing, singing and live animals on the stage. If you want to burn off some holiday calories, visit one of the skating rinks in NYC in the winter. You can find popular ones in Bryant Park, Central Park or Rockefeller Center.
Movie buffs will love some of the free movie venues that NYC offers during the warmer months. Check out the popular classic movies at Bryant Park, bring a blanket and make an evening out of it. The New York Philharmonic has concerts in some of the local area parks as well. Take the whole family out to Coney Island for a famous hot dog and spend a day at the water, but be sure to leave plenty of time for the arcades! Hang out at the new Brooklyn Bridge Park or cross the bridge and see the ships at South Street Seaport. While you’re there, check out the Beekman Beer Garden Beach Club. Perfect for the over 21 crowd on hot summer nights.
Springtime means flowers and you can see a dazzling array at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. If you’re there at the right time, the cherry blossoms will be in full bloom. Walk along the High Line after late April and indulge in some of the treats by local vendors. The High Line is an elevated railway track so you can walk along while traffic zooms underneath. If you’re visiting earlier in the spring, make sure you venture down Fifth Avenue on March 17th for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
New Yorkers celebrate the annual Open House New York and tourists can visit some of the renowned sites along the tour each October. Or get a true taste of some of the unique people by attending the Village Halloween Parade on Canal Street. Literary types will enjoy the annual New Yorker Festival where a blend of writers, musicians and actors combine to present a wide array of art. This popular event sells out quickly so get tickets in advance if you’re visiting New York City in October.
